Back pain during pregnancy is a common complaint, as the weight and position of the growing baby can put strain on the back muscles (via a change in your centre of gravity). Other factors such as hormonal changes and changes in posture can also contribute to back pain.
Some women may develop pubic symphysis dysfunction (PSD, also called pelvic-girdle pain). The pubic symphysis, the joint located at the front of the pelvis, can becomes painful and inflamed, resulting in symptoms such as difficulty walking, pain in the lower abdomen, and difficulty moving the legs. The condition can be caused by hormonal changes during pregnancy and increased stress on the pelvic area due to the weight of the growing baby.
Osteopathy is considered safe for both mother and baby and can be used alongside other forms of medical care. At OsteoPoint we will use pillows and cushions to make sure you're relaxed and comfortable during the treatment.
During pregnancy, we can help alleviate common discomforts such as back pain, headaches, and fatigue by addressing the structural changes that occur in the body as the baby grows.
Treatment for PSD during pregnancy typically involves physical therapy, exercises to strengthen the muscles supporting the joint, and advice on pain management techniques.
