Sciatica is a condition that causes pain along the path of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back through the buttock, down the back of the leg, and into the calf and foot.
The pain can be accompanied by pins and needles, tingling, numbness, and weakness in the leg or foot. It usually only affects one leg.
The most common causes of sciatica are problems with the discs in the spine; slippage of the spine bones (spondylolisthesis); and tightness or overuse of the glute and hamstring muscles.
Once Stuart has done an examination and looked at how you move, he'll give you a diagnosis and start treating the pain and symptoms. The first priority is to get you moving better.
From there, we will work together on improving your strength and flexibility to help prevent future sciatica problems. There is a range of treatments to choose from, including mobilisation, soft tissue work, manipulation, guided exercise, acupuncture and RockBlades.
The key is finding the approach that's right for you - everyone's different, so the treatment is tailored to each individual.
